If you missed last night’s concert, you missed an exciting night of talent and hard work! Lower Elementary students sang and played recorders beautifully. The Show Choir rocked the night away with popular tunes. The Chamber Wind Ensemble impressed us with their instrumental flexibility. The Jazz Band was swingin’! The Cadet Band made us sit up and take note, and the Concert Band had us marching to the beat.
I am so pleased with all of the effort our students have made in their musical learning and so very happy to see such joy in their exploration of music! Last night’s concert was a testament to the power of music in allowing us to communicate and share emotions like nothing else. Music is also an amazing expression of history and culture–from a march dedicated to George Washington to a lullaby from Wales to a modern Broadway musical! In what other area of study can we understand people and places without actually talking or reading about them?
I was also thrilled to announce the addition of strings to our music program and instrumental survey classes in Years/Levels 3 and 4 for next year! Information on the music program, from infants through middle school, is attached to this blog entry and will be sent via email as well. Please, read over this information prior to coming to our instrument petting zoo/rental night with Music & Arts on Monday, May 21st, from 4:30–6:00pm in CR5.
