DGM Spring Concert Is a Huge Success!

If you missed last night’s concert, you missed an exciting night of talent and hard work!  Lower Elementary students sang and played recorders beautifully.  The Show Choir rocked the night away with popular tunes.  The Chamber Wind Ensemble impressed us with their instrumental flexibility.  The Jazz Band was swingin’!  The Cadet Band made us sit up and take note, and the Concert Band had us marching to the beat.

I am so pleased with all of the effort our students have made in their musical learning and so very happy to see such joy in their exploration of music!  Last night’s concert was a testament to the power of music in allowing us to communicate and share emotions like nothing else.  Music is also an amazing expression of history and culture–from a march dedicated to George Washington to a lullaby from Wales to a modern Broadway musical!  In what other area of study can we understand people and places without actually talking or reading about them?

I was also thrilled to announce the addition of strings to our music program and instrumental survey classes in Years/Levels 3 and 4 for next year!  Information on the music program, from infants through middle school, is attached to this blog entry and will be sent via email as well.  Please, read over this information prior to coming to our instrument petting zoo/rental night with Music & Arts on Monday, May 21st, from 4:30–6:00pm in CR5.  Contact Ms. Dawn, dcorso@desertgardenmontessori.org, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Petting zoo, food connection.

Special events: On March 22nd, there will be an In house Field Trip (Petting Zoo).  It was wonderful last year as majority of the children enjoyed playing with the animals. Some were frightened but overall, it was a huge success.

Food Connection: If your child is on jar food/cereal, please bring his/her food with the label and check the kitchen cabinet on regular basis to verify there is enough food for the day/week.

We are still getting kids food/bottles without labels! Please label your child’s food.

Celebration and self care tip

Arianna R celebrated her first birthday on Feb. 26th. Happy Birthday Arianna!!

It’s hard to say “Goodbye” to Estela and Penelope!! They will move to the Toddler environment on March 19. Estela will be in Ms. Hillary’s class, while Penelope will move to Ms. Maria’s class. We would like to wish them good luck on their new journey!!

Self care tips: When feeding solids to an infant, try homemade foods first; this way, you can control what they eat so you can provide more nutrition and variety to their menu. This avoids food from a jar filled with preservatives while kids can enjoy homemade food.

Weather/clothing: Weather is really wonderful now; since it’s a bit cooler, we spend more time outside in the patio so they have a chance to get some fresh air. Please remember to bring your child’s shoes and socks.

Also, please label everything (including bottles) with the child’s first and last name.
