Welcome to MYHS!
We are delighted to welcome you to our MYHS International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme!
This coming school year is going to be very exciting and we have a lot to look forward to. As we begin the school year this August, during a global pandemic, we know we will face some challenges. We are actively working to think and plan for any changes that may come our way. Our team is dedicated to student success and growth. We believe all students bring unique abilities and talents to a class, and we cannot wait to learn & grow together this year, both in person and online when needed.
We have a teaching team full of talented and passionate people this year! Krista John is our MYHS Program Director. Mr. Justin Walters, our 11th and 12th Grade Facilitator and Design Teacher, Mr. Garry John, our Mathematics and High School Science teacher, Mr. Bill Hall, our English teacher, and Ms. Stephanie Jones, our Art and PE teacher, are returning full time as homeroom/advisee teachers. Additional Staff include: Dr. Carlos Encinas, teaching Middle School Science and assisting with Science labs, and Ms. Cassie Tolman, our small group assistant.
Our daily program will begin promptly at 9:00 AM this quarter (there is no soft start for our program) and ends at 3:45 PM. Please be prepared to be on time and ready to begin the day, whether you are in person or home-learning. You can find our daily schedule for first part of the year on our classroom webpage.
We will begin the year in our “Classroom Family” groupings to maintain strict safety protocols during this time. Students will stay in the same classroom throughout the day and teachers will rotate from room to room. We have dedicated time in our schedules for outdoor time as well. We will also continue to have lunch in the garden. Whenever is possible and safe, we will continue to have exciting opportunities, including ”Going Outs” & excursions, and virtual experiences designed to connect real-life with classroom experiences, our annual Field Study Trip, exciting & student driven elective options, the Garden Café, a comprehensive arts curriculum, and new blended learning programs through our partnership with ASU Prep Digital.
We encourage you to become involved in our MYHS program and the DGM community this year. We will have weekly presence at Coffee with the Director, as well as community building events where our students and parents will have opportunities to bond and have fun together. We also have a private Facebook page for MYHS and our new classroom webpage. We are looking for parent volunteers to share passion works on Friday mornings in your student’s Classroom Family.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your family and we look forward to working with you in the upcoming year!
